Water, Lemonade and Marshmallows - Delayed Gratification
Picture yourself extremely thirsty in front of an empty 12oz glass where you can pour from a pitcher only 6oz of silted water, now add a fresh lemon and the ability to drink or sell the liquid, what choice(s) do you make? There are a number of answers: you could satisfy your immediate need to quench your thirst by drinking cloudy water; wait until the particles in the water settled to the bottom and drink; or you could squeeze the lemon in the clear water, sell it to someone interested in lemonade allowing you to buy a gallon of water for you and your friends. How does delayed gratification work in your life? Take 6:02 minutes out of your day to watch this TED talk from Jochim de Posada on a landmark experiment focusing on delayed gratification and how this simple experiment can predict future success. I must say the little girl sniffing until her hearts content is a crack up.
Do you agree with Jochim de Posada?
Would you have eaten the marshmallow?
What if you replaced the marshmallow with coffee?
Could you wait?
